Abstract Navajo Churro Sheep Extinction Project: Maintaining Tradional Life Ways in a Changing World

The Navajo Churro Sheep Extinction Project is a community-based,non-profit organization incorporated in the Navajo Nation. DBI was founded in 1991 to provide leadership, economic development and support for Navajo sheep producers and fiber artists. The organization seeks to restore status to sheep herding, wool processing and weaving. Also to promote the education that is necessary for its pursuit in the modern world. DBI is helping conserve the traditional Navajo-Churro sheep breed as well as educating the community and the public about the importance of Navajo Sheep Culture and spirituality. My organization is proud to be of this type of assistance to its grassroots people which is self determination at its best.
