Abstract Outdoor Environmental Philosophy

Environmental philosophy explores the relationships, including ethical, between humans and the non-human world. It provides powerful analytical tools for thinking about these relationships, and has important contributions to make to the attempt to move towards a more sustainable future. However, much environmental philosophy takes place indoors, and in very human-dominated surroundings, such as lecture halls. I am interested in developing outdoor environmental philosophy, that harnesses the power of wild places in order to engage people emotionally and experientially, as well as intellectually, with the urgent work of rethinking the ways in which we currently treat the non-human world.
